“Plein-air paintings are a bit like short poems. These poems are not deep and heavy but more light and breezy. A good poet might write a bunch of them and throw away more than a few. A plein-air painting is rough and reveals a good deal more about the artist than a studio job.” (Paul deMarrais)

I loved painting outside, albeit a bit rushed as it was in between some pretty angry summer storms. It was very windy so my sketch and painting had to be quick. The wind also blew the sand into my paint palette, however, on the whole, I really enjoyed my first plein air experience and hope to carry on the practice throughout the rest of the summer and beyond. The time passed quickly and I was able to fully immerse myself in the process, it fed my soul.
I will be writing a longer piece about my experiences and releasing a YouTube video so please subscribe and leave me a comment.

Stay naturally curious…
The palette may be limited but there is seemingly no limit to where your paintings can take you, Clare. That’s a great first attempt at plein air. Next you need to sketch those hedgehogs from last week.
Lovely sketch 💕
