I like how you continue to persevere in something you love so much. It could be all too easy to get lost in the fake algorithms social media, especially You Tube. Hold true to the words you’ve captured in your newsletter to ensure you continue to find the joy and effect what’s in your control!

Happy New Year, Clare! Wonderful article! It's interesting what you said about being influenced by others as to what type of art you might feel pressured to make. Someone I know only wanted to use colored pencils, because she said you have more control over the medium than watercolor, which I was trying out. I'm continuing to try watercolor, since I think it's fun and beautiful.

I have way too many art goals for this year! I'd like to work with gouache, collage, ink pens, graphite pencil, and practice more watercolor. I'd like to try intuitive painting. I'll take a look at those books. Thank you for your inspiration, as always!

Thank you Cyndi, I love your art goals and there are so many mediums to try out and have fun with. I love getting to play with watercolours, gouache, crayons and pencils, they can all compliment each other. The intuitive painting books are so inspirational and I cant wait to set up my easel and get painting.

Happy New Year and Happy New Painting! 💞🌟

Hi Clare - its good to hear you have some goals in place for 2025. I keep a small notebook and when I have moments of inspiration I write down what subject matter or medium I would like to experiment with - if I want to create a body of work I stick to a theme until I move on to the next idea. I have kept a lot of work from my art college days and find it is nice to re-visit it and seek new inspiration, interpreting the work in a different way. I love going to exhibitions, (London, Chichester, Eastbourne) even if it means going on a day trip - it is what motivates me - especially the British painters of the early to mid-20th century. I have collected so many books and catalogues for inspiration but also to enjoy looking at their work since I could never afford to buy one of their paintings! Its good to have a plan; and en-plein air is definitely a go- too, weather permitting of course! Happy painting!

HI Angela, I like your style, keeping notes and reviewing old pieces of art to inspire you in the present. Art Exhibitions are on my list this year, local and further afield. I have been out and sketched plein air today, it was mighty windy and posed many challenges. I feel pleased to have gone out walking and taken a sketchbook and pencil regardless. Wishing you a wonderful 2025 and you never know we may get to paint/sketch plein air together.
